Katerina Edeleva (Edelvak)

is a visual artist and photographer. She was born in 1995 in Ufa. Since 2017 she is based in St. Petersburg. Studied at the Academy of documentary and art photography «Fotografika». In 2023-2024 she is a participant of the contemporary photography lab «NIZINA». 

Katerina creates visual series, photo books and zines. In her art practice she experiments with digital and analog photography, transforms found objects and archives, and combines field research with performativity. She works at the boundaries of realism, symbolism and naturalism. She is characterized by the intertwining of social context with subjective experience. 

Katerina reflects on the shadow side of human nature and the phenomena it generates. She also addresses the borderline and unconscious, which manifests itself in traumatic experiences. 

Katerina is a regular participant of Russian festivals of author's zines and photo books. Zines are in the library of the Museum of Contemporary Art «GARAGE» (Moscow, Russia) and in the Athens Zine Library. 

She is currently working on several projects, including a photo book «Hidden Illumination» about rationalization of magical thinking.
